Stacey de Voe & Marianna Feher
Under the sun, we will always have names

The exhibition “Under the sun, we will always have names” revolves around Stacey de Voe and Marianna Feher’s collaborative project “dual act”. Together with several other female protagonists, they are embarking on what they call the custodianship of recollecting, recycling and recovering the narratives surrounding two historical anti-fascist women’s organizations: Mujeres Libres (Free Women) and Antifašistički Front Žena (Antifascist Front of Women) that were active during the pre- and post-war period in Spain and Yugoslavia in the 1930s, 40s and early 50s.

Their on-going project examines their struggle for liberation and subsequently their historical representation and contemporary reputation. Through a mix of visual juxtaposition, contemporary correspondence, historical as well as personal accounts and archival findings, de Voe and Feher’s artistic project seeks to connect biographical aspects, fragmented chronologies, collective practices, memory, and friendship. Narratives where political, critical, and historical insights are mixed with facts, fiction, and storytelling – while simultaneously constituting itself as a «second-hand archive».

Their new work presented at Heerz Tooya is an invitation, a scroll, a supplication. Blending found with archival material taken from the two organizations as well as various connected organs and magazines affiliated with the movements. An invitation forming and leaking materialities suspended in time.

dual act is an artistic engagement operated by Stacey de Voe and Marianna Feher.

Stacey de Voe (b. 1988, New York) is a visual artist based in Malmö. Her practice concerns an interest between cultural, lingual and temporal boundaries and how they relate to identity formation, notions of access, memory and the construction of her story through employing installation, performance, publication, sound, moving image and textile. She has been a part of projects that have been presented at Malmö Konstmuseum, osloBIENNALEN, Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, bak basis voor actuele kunst, Khartoum Contemporary Art Center, Kunstnernes Hus and Galleri Konstepidemin. Her writing has been published with MIT press, Urbania, SantoLaRosa and SAMORA Forum. Since 2018 she has been a member of the artistic persona Rose Hammer.

Marianna Feher (b. 1989, Malmö) is an artist, organizer and researcher based in Stockholm. Her work is often mediated through writing, performance, audio, montage and public gatherings. Her practice investigates ways in which social, political and interpersonal forms of power interact with, and affect bodies. Feher has presented and participated in projects at Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Porta degli Angeli, The Swedish History Museum, Mint, Florida Lothringer13, Kalmar Konstmuseum, Norbergfestival, Fylkingen, c.off, Kropotkina 11, Vita Kuben, documenta 14, MNAC Bucharest, among others. Together with Olivia Berkowicz, she organizes the audio platform Tentative Transmits.
